HANDY HINTS For Common Karcher Power Washer Pump Problems
My pump is pulsating.
- Check RPM. It should be 3200-3300.
- Check accessories: Clogged or too small of nozzles, dent in lance or gun, kink in hose.
- Check nozzle insert for obstruction/build-up.
- Check the check valves for proper seal.
- Worn pump valves or broken valve spring.
My pump has low or no pressure.
- Check for water Leaks (hose or plumbing).
- Check water supply: adequate and constant, also clean the inlet filter.
- A worn or incorrect spray nozzle would cause loss in pressure (or spray nozzles not completely turned to high pressure).
- Unloader valve improperly set.
- Check for signs of worn pump valves or broken valve spring, dirt in pump valves
- Safety relief valve (if applicable).
- Air in water supply (air leak).
- Engine RPM is too low.
- Insufficient water supply (could cause pump cavitations).
- Insufficient engine power .
My pump won't draw soap.
- Verify using a detergent nozzle (black tip).
- Verify filter is "on".
- Check hose and filter for clogs or cuts.
- Check the valve to make sure it isn't stuck to o-ring.
- Check the nozzle insert for a clog.
- Do not use dense chemical or cleaning solution.
- Distance between the chemical injector and nozzle is too great (100FT or more).
My Engine Won’t Start.
- Engine low on fuel.
- Engine low on oil.
- Switch in “off” position.
- Worn or dirty spark plug.
- Not properly choked for cold starting.
- Over choked and flooded.
- Fuel supply valve turned off.
My Recoil Starter Hard to Pull
- Pressure built up in system, relieve by squeezing trigger gun.
- Low oil crankcase / pump assembly.
- Hydro Locked – oil or fuel in cylinders.
Excessive Vibration or Pulsations
- Insufficient water supply.
- Dirt in pump valves.
- Air in water supply (air leak).
- Clogged inlet water filter.
- Clogged or damaged spray nozzle causing relief valve.
Fluctuating Pulsation
- Incorrect fuel, dirty or worn spark plug.
- Choke on after engine warmed up.
- Air in water supply (air leak).
- Dirt in pump valves.
- Excessive pump pressure causing engine overload.
- Worn or burned engine valves.
