Water Softeners For Maximum Efficiency When Pressure Washing

Water Softeners

Water softeners are used to fix hard water, which contains dissolved calcium or magnesium. Although water quality is often overlooked when cleaning, in reality hard water has visible effects on many surfaces. To determine whether you need a water softener, conduct a simple water hardness test. If your area has hard water, water softeners can benefit your pressure washing business by increasing the quality of cleaning.

Water softeners are often used along with pressure washers and other equipment when washing carpets, windows, and other items. When used in conjunction with water and detergent, water softeners allow for more effective cleaning. Water softeners are most often used by companies running carpet cleaning or car wash businesses. After adding a water softener to your pressure washing equipment, you’ll notice that vehicles are much shinier and carpets are even softer because the minerals present in hard water have such a visible effect when you use hard water to clean. Clear windows are especially notorious for showing spots and streaks due to hard water.

Not only does hard water affect how well the surface is able to be cleaned using the water, but these mineral deposits are also bad for your pressure washers and other equipment. These minerals can clog the hoses, making your pressure washer less effective. When the hoses become clogged with minerals, less water is able to make it through.

Plus, hard water causes soap to turn slimy instead of working into a lather. To get the maximum cleaning power from the soaps and detergents you use, use water that has been softened. When using a water softener, you can even reduce the amount of soap that you normally use, because the soap will be more effective in softened water than in hard water.

A water softener unit is convenient to use, weighing around 20 pounds with a compact size. The unit attaches between the water source, such as a garden hose, and your cleaning equipment, such as a carpet cleaner or pressure washer. Once it is attached in this manner, using a water softener requires no extra work. Plus, it can even save you time that you usually spend touching up the spots left when using hard water. Commercial water softeners should be used anytime you plan to use a pressure washer for cleaning purposes.

Most water softeners designed for use in this manner simply filter out the minerals in the water. A few leave behind a brine-like solution that you will need to dispose of; although this can be an inconvenience, remember that these minerals are removed from the water you are trying to clean with; any work required to use a water softener is well worth it. If you’d prefer not to be left with a mineral solution to dispose of, choose one of the many water softeners that do not require this step.

When buying a water softener for use with a pressure washer, be sure to purchase one that can handle the volume of water used by the pressure washer. Large companies using a pressure washer often, such as those washing vehicle fleets, windows, or awnings, will be particularly in need of a heavy-duty water softener. Afterwards, you will notice that everything looks much cleaner than using a pressure washer alone.
