Using Hose Reels to Make Your Pressure Washer Tasks Easier

Hose Reels When using a pressure washer, often long hoses between the sprayer nozzle and the pressure washer unit itself become necessary. Especially if you are using a smaller pressure washer that is moved often during your work, the hose can easily become tangled around your equipment. Pressure washer hose reels can save you time and frustration because you’ll never have to untangle another pressure washer hose at the start or end of your project. Plus, they make the hoses last longer, since they are stored properly instead of wound around the machine in a haphazard manner. A pressure washer hose reel not only keeps your hoses organized when in use, but the hose will also take up less space when not in use, and it will not become tangled between uses. In short, pressure washer hose reels reduce the work you’ll need to do for storing your pressure washer.

There are several different styles of hose reels designed for pressure washers. Some pivot, so that the hose is always pointed in the direction you need it. Others are fixed, so that they will need to be turned or moved if you need to use the pressure washer in another area. Some are designed to be kept independently from the pressure washer unit itself, while others can be mounted to the side of the unit. Others can be attached to a vehicle or wall with the use of a mounting kit. Portable reels designed to be carried by hand are lightweight ways to keep your hoses organized.

With a constant tension design, most pressure washer hose reels include a latch or other feature to keep the reel from uncoiling more hose than you need. Reels are designed to be either hand crank or electric models; an electric hose reel can save you time when using a particularly long hose. Electric models are, predictably, a little more expensive than manual models, but they can save you time when coiling or uncoiling a hose that is several hundred feet long.

No matter which type of pressure washer hose reel you choose, it will be built to withstand years of use with a weather-resistant powder-coated steel or stainless steel finish. Unlike most hose reels meant for homeowners’ garden hoses, a pressure washer hose reel typically has no plastic parts, and is meant for heavy-duty use. In fact, most hose reels are purchased by professional pressure washers and are used constantly every day; still, homeowners or other occasional pressure washer units will see great benefit from storing their pressure washer hoses in such an organized manner.

Hose reels are designed to hold from 50 to 200 or even 600 feet of 3/8” pressure washer hose, so make sure that you choose one that is large enough for the hose between your pressure washer and the sprayer nozzle. Choose one depending on your pressure washer’s output; some are rated up to 3000PSI, while others can withstand 5000PSI. A few also have limitations for the gallons-per-minute flow through the hose. Although many can handle hoses with hot water, others are rated for use only with cold water.
