The Benefits of an Electric Power Washer

Electric Power Washer

When buying a pressure washer, your first choice is between a gas pressure washer and an electric power washer. These are the two main types of pressure washer available. Most homeowners choose electric washers, while gas models are usually chosen for professional or commercial use. However, electric pressure washers are gaining popularity in the professional and commercial segment as well due to their low upkeep and ease of use.

Unlike the gas model, an electric power washer does not require gasoline, making it convenient to use. Simply attach a water source such as a garden hose, add detergent, and plug the unit in. An electric powered pressure washer is also less expensive to operate because of the lack of gasoline; most electric pressure washers are also less expensive to purchase than their gasoline-run counterparts. Electric powered units start at around $675 versus $795 for gasoline-powered washers.

Electric pressure washers require considerably less maintenance than those driven by gasoline engines. Electric models do not require tune-ups or fuel mixing. Plus, they do not need to be winterized, and can be stored in humid areas or indoors, unlike gasoline-powered pressure washers. They can sit for a year without any detrimental consequences for the engine, unlike gasoline models. To use an electric power washer, simply flip a switch; unlike gas washers, they do not require pull-starting.

An electric power washer can be used indoors or in other confined areas, whereas a gas pressure washer would emit harmful fumes. If you plan to use the pressure washer in an indoor space, an electric model is your only option. There is no exhaust using an electric washer. Plus, the electric pressure washer is usually much quieter than a comparable gas model, which makes it a good option for residential use or in other areas where a loud pressure washer would bother neighbors.

However, the electric model does need to be used relatively close to a power outlet, which may limit its range. Portability will be limited because the pressure washer must be attached to the outlet with a long cord. If you plan to use a pressure washer outdoors, far away from an electrical outlet, a gas power washer may be your only choice.

As far as the power of the water coming out of a pressure washer, this is not dependent on whether it is an electric or gas pressure washer. An electric power washer can come in a wide range of PSI and flow rates, for a range of different jobs from light to heavy duty. Generally, electric pressure washers are known for being smaller and meant for lighter-duty jobs. Most electric pressure washer models product 1,000 to 1,800 PSI, while gas-powered pressure washers range up to 3,000 PSI for deep cleaning purposes. On the other hand, there are a few heavy duty electric pressure washer units offering up to 3,000 PSI for commercial applications. Yet electric pressure washers are still usually purchased for household tasks and light cleaning such as decks, patios, and lawn furniture.
